Results: “For school attendance, re-analysis showed benefits similar to those originally found in intervention schools for both children who did and did not receive deworming drugs. However, after correction of coding errors, there was little evidence of an indirect effect on school attendance amongst children in schools close to intervention schools. Combining these effects gave a total increase in attendance of 3.9% amongst treated children, which was no longer statistically significant.” We address this claim extensively in Section A.2 above. The results after correction of variable construction make clear that it is impossible to precisely estimate overall deworming externalities on school participation out to a distance of 6 km, as this results in very wide and largely uninformative

Comment on Macartan Humphreys’ and Other Recent Discussions of the Miguel and Kremer (2004) Study
The replication of the Miguel and Kremer 2004 Econometrica paper, “Worms: Identifying Impacts on Education and Health In the Presence of Treatment Externalities”, carried out by Aiken et al. and Davey et al. and our responses to the replication, which can be found here and here, triggered discussions by scholars and media taking an interest in the evidence base for mass deworming policies in re...

متن کاملEditorial: DNA Replication Origins in Microbial Genomes
In all three domains of life, DNA replication initiates on defined genome sites, termed replication origins. In bacteria, replication typically initiates from a single replication origin (oriC). In eukaryotic genomes, replication initiates from significantly more replication origins, ranging from hundreds in yeast to tens of thousands in human (Gao et al., 2012). Within the archaeal domain, mul...
متن کاملNurse staffing and patient safety: current knowledge and implications for action.
Over the past year, published research has drawn increased attention to issues of hospital nurse staffing and adverse patient outcomes. Among the published articles that have appeared are those by Aiken et al. [1], Kovner et al. [2], and Needleman et al. [3]. The article by Aiken et al. focused on post-surgical mortality, and received substantial attention because of its conclusion that, contro...
